Elektron Technology Ophthalmic Instrumentation

The Ophthalmic website is home to the Macular Pigment Screener (MPS II) and Henson Perimeters. They form three core products for screening and monitoring the two leading causes of irreversible blindness in the world.

Macular Pigment Screener (MPS ll)

The insurance policy against sight loss
The MPS II is a compact, portable, affordable device that brings macular pigment  (MP) screening to any patient anywhere. It’s purpose is to detect low MP, which has been shown to be a significant modifiable risk factor for developing Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). Once low MP has been detected it needs managing upward through diet, supplementation and lifestyle on order to minimise the risk of early onset of AMD. AMD is the leading cause of irreversible sight loss in the over 50’s and the conversation about AMD is getting louder as the potential size of the problem becomes more apparent.

Henson 7000 Screener

Remarkably small in size yet reassuringly abundant in features, the Henson 7000 can perform all central field screening tests. Weight, ease of use, performance and speed of operation have all influenced its design.

Finally, scientific proof that you don’t need large numbers of stimuli to have a test regarded as sensitive when testing for early visual field loss.

What is AMD? - Watch the video

AMD is short for Age-related Macular Degeneration, the leading cause of vision loss in the over 50s. Over time, damaging blue light from the sun and other sources, combined with an unhealthy lifestyle, can deplete the eye’s macular screen - a kind of protective shield - which can lead to permanent, irreversible central vision loss.
